JOIN US - T.C.S.C. Guests & Rookie Visit #1, #2, #3
VISIT #1
Sign in with our Membership Chm in our Chorus Guest Book.

You will receive some information about our chorus and about Sweet Adelines.

You should also get a Guest Music Folder which you can use for this rehearsal and turn in at the end of the evening.

The Membership Chm will introduce you to our President and our Director and Assistant Directors.

Our Director, Judy will probably ask you about your voice range, if you read music (many of our members don't) and what musical experience/ background you have. Then she will take you into another room and ask you to sing a couple lines of a familiar tune so she can determine what voice part to place you in. No pressure, no command performances, just between you and the Director.

If you just want to sit and listen at the sidelines for a while - that's OK too - but we encourage you to sing along anyway. We are, afterall, a singing organization and, tho' we love an audience, we also love what we do and just KNOW that you will too if you enjoy harmony at all!

The Director will then introduce you to someone on the risers in your voice part who will help you if you need it - sing in your ear if necessary (don't read music?), explain which line of notes you will be singing on the music (lead, bari, bass, or tenor), and generally answer any other questions you might have (during breaks pls!). If she doesn't know the answer, she can probably introduce you to someone who does.

This member may also be assigned to you as a sort of "Big Sister" in that she will run thru a checklist of information which ALL new members eventually need to know. She'll make sure you're introduced to your section leader, make sure you get your guest folder and a learning tape. If you become a member, she will follow through and make sure you're introduced to the treasurer, meet the costume chair and get costumes and all the nitty gritty necessary to become a performing member of the chorus.

If we don't actually say the words, "PLEASE COME BACK AGAIN!" it's probably because we're so involved in what we're doing, that we just forgot! Consider the words spoken! It's a time and energy-consuming hobby that's not for everyone and we want you to be sure it's something you'll enjoy for a long time to come. So we wait 'til at least the 3rd visit before we even give you a Membership Application Form.

VISIT #2 Sign in again and get your Guest Music Folder and join us on the risers. By this time, you should have a good idea of what the parts are all about, and know whether you're comfortable in your voice part. If not, discuss it with our Director. Tho' she will place you in the part she feels fits your voice best, it's not carved in stone. If you're just not comfortable with it, tell her.

If you have a tape recorder, bring it. It's one of our most valuable tools. Part-predominant learning tapes are usually available ($1) to help you learn our repertoire - just ask anyone in the chorus for them. Tape yourself and listen to it at home and check your own notes.

VISIT #3 or #4
Sign in, pick up your Guest Music Folder, and join us on the risers. By this time, you should know whether this hobby is for you.

Our Membership Chair will ask you whether you want a Membership Application and talk to you about chorus dues and costumes. Fill out the Application and turn it in to her. She will also talk to you about our simple painless MEMBERSHIP AUDITION PROCESS.

She will also give you a copy of the Chapter Bylaws and Standing Rules. Section I of the Standing Rules pertains especially to new members, but also contains other important information about MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES TO THE CHORUS so please read thru them carefully.
