Presenting our new tenor (2006) - Sarah Schandle![]() "Cause She's a Blonde!" ![]() |
When four busy professional women start congregating once a week, anything is possible -- especially when the main reason to sing together is because IT'S FUN! We're lettin' off steam, and havin' a ball! Singing in a quartet made up of strong, unique personalities is both interesting and rewarding. We're fortunate to have one very important thing in common -- THE LOVE OF SINGING HARMONY! We also share a positive attitude about life and getting things done, which we find tends to generate special and often humorous moments, both in rehearsals and on stage. The four of us are all proud members of the Twin Cities Show Chorus (T.C.S.C.). Wendy Hamilton, lead - first joined the Rosewood Hills chorus in 1979 and transferred to TCSC a couple years later. Wendy often does solos with the chorus, sings in her church choir, and sang for several years with the quartet Portraits of Sound. She has been on the TC Music Staff for a number of years. Wendy is owner of Associated Sewing Inc. stores in Bloomington, Maplewood, St. Paul, and St. Cloud, Minnesota, and is one of the leading PFAFF sewing machine dealers in the U.S. She's a widow with two grown children with families. Barb Harvey, joined Sweet Adelines and the Forest Lake chorus as a 17-year old tenor in 1966. In 1999 Barb, now a baritone, transferred to the Twin Cities Show Chorus. Her long association with barbershop includes singing in many quartets, among them the several-times 2nd-place regional medalist quartet JB Jamboree, and the comedic TrebleMakers. She has served several years on the Regional Music Faculty and the chorus Board. She's also an Assistant Director on the TCSC Music Staff. Barb occasionally sings as an alto-sub in a mixed quartet with the Roseville Big Band. Barb is single and a freelance graphics designer - www.barbharvey.info with lots of great nephews and neices. Sarah Schandle has been singing with TCSC since 2002 and only dabbled in quartet singing until last year when she joined Good News! Sarah has served as Secretary on the TCSC Board of Directors, and works as bookkeeper and officer manager for law firm of Orbovich & Gartner Chartered. Sarah and her husband Bob have one college-age son and one young border collie, and it's impossible to say which keeps them more entertained. Bev Swanson bass - started singing with the Twin Cities Show Chorus in 1988 and is now a lifetime member of Sweet Adelines International. She has served several years on the Region Six Management Team and the TC Board of Directors. Bev's previous quartet experience includes several years singing with Hit Parade. Bev and husband Ernie own ESCOM Properties Inc., a property management firm with offices in Milwaukee and Minneapolis. They have several grown children with families. |
December 2005 in the Minnesota Zoo IMAX Theater Lobby - we sang for the monthly gathering of seniors in their theatre - they got to stay and watch "The Polar Express" in 3D!We got their morning started with hot chocolate, coffee, or cider and lots of xmas goodies and our christmas repertoire of: Great Day!, Holly Jolly Christmas/Rocking Around the Christmas Tree, the Lion Sleeps Tonite (just for the zoo!), Marie's Christmas Medley, Cold and Fugue, The First Noel, Christmas Chopstix. There were about 100 people in the theater. The next day we got to sing for "the Murray Lunch Bunch" at The Mermaid restaurant for Charlie Hall, owner of the Mermaid. Lori Boerem, who is a Murray alumni, bid on Good News! at our annual chorus auction and won a performance from us for this event. Sarah and I stayed for lunch and had a good meal thanks to Charlie and Lori. Tho' it snowed, there were still about 130 people there. Sadly, Charlie says it may be the last Murray Luncheon he can sponsor unless he can raise the price. For the last 4-5 years, he's kept the monthly luncheon at $10 [AMAZING!] - but can no longer do this at that price in all practicality. The jury is still out and will depend on the survey he put to the attendees. Whatever happens, GOOD NEWS! hopes the luncheons continue as GOOD things like Charlies generosity should be appreciated and the gathering of good friends and reminiscing is wonderful to see nowadays. Songs: Holly Jolly Christmas/Rockin Around the Christmas Tree, Marie's Christmas Medley, Cold & Fugue, the First Noel (with Lori filling in bass when Bev did the verse), and Christmas Chopstix. |
Photos from Lakes Area Show October 15-16 2005 OUR FIRST SHOW WITH SARAH was a real treat! Thank you Shelley for asking us to sing with you and for the chance to visit and get to know the Lakes Area chorus better! This was old stompin grounds for Barb (her 1st chorus) so she had a great time singing with old chorus mates. For the Friday evening show, since Sarah and Bev couldn't make it, Barb and Wendy teamed up with Shelley and Karen from Lakes Area in a quartet to fill in the show package at Ham Lake Senior Center with some of the 40s and 50s songs from the TC chorus repertoire. Saturday saw us all at the Lindstrom Community Center for 2 shows at 3 and 7pm with pizza after the show. Thank you Claire for the photos and thank you Lakes Area for the pizza and great time! Shelley provided a great script and we just stepped up to the mike when cued. Songs performed for this show were: Great Day Medley, Let's Hear it for the Boy, At the Hop, If I Could Write a Song, I Never Knew Medley, The Lion Sleeps Tonite, and Let Freedom Ring. As an afterthought: "Cold and Fugue" |

2005 May Regional Competition - 5th Place Medalists!
Sang: I Never Knew Medley and Back in the Old Routine After competition, Sharon and hubby Lowell decided to retire to Arkansas. So we auditioned tenors and Sharon made tenor learning tapes so Sarah Schandle could take over in October. We miss her already! |
After this competition and 5th place medals, Sharon told us she and Lowel were retiring to their new home in Arkansas and she would probably not be with us at all after October of 2005 except ocassionally. Singing in a quartet forms some very special bonds and we will always miss her greatly. Whenever she visits Minnesota and TC again, we expect to sing a song or two with her. Her special gift for gab, her costume savvy and style and making people feel welcome and comfortable will be especially missed. We will always appreciate her openness and generosity to the quartet in making new tenor tapes and helping Sarah to integrate into the quartet so seamlessly. We love you Sharon. We know that as a lifetime member, you'll soon be busy in another chorus and sharing your very special and loving gifts with our sister Sweet Adelines in your new home. Never stop makin' music! |
